The total amount of biomass resources in China, such as crop stalks, agricultural products processed leftovers, forestry leftovers and energy crops, which can be used as energy sources, is about 460 million tons of standard coal per year.At present, China's annual biomass energy utilization is about 35 million tons of standard coal, and the utilization rate is only 7.6%.

As of 2016, China's biomass power generation capacity reached 12.14 million kW, of which agricultural and forestry biomass power generation capacity was 6.05 million kW, waste incineration power generation capacity was 5.74 million kW, biogas power generation capacity was 350,000 kW, and various biomass power generation. Almost all of the pure-burning biomass power generation, and its installed capacity is mostly low-efficiency small units with low steam parameters of 10,000 to 30,000 kW. The power efficiency of pure-fired biomass power generation projects is generally less than 30%. Therefore, small-capacity and low-efficiency power generation of purely burnt biomass is not the main development direction of biomass power generation.

By 2020, China's coal-fired installed capacity will reach 1.1 billion kW. If 50% of biomass can be used for coal-fired power plants, the total capacity of coal-fired hybrid biomass generators can reach 550 million kW. The average blending capacity is estimated to be 10%, and the installed capacity of biomass power generation can reach 55 million kW.

If China has 50% of biomass per year for power generation, then the power generation capacity will be about 720 billion kWh, which translates into an installed capacity of about 180 million kW, which is 12% of the national power generation in 2016. Significantly reduce CO2 emissions from coal-fired power. Therefore, large-capacity high-efficiency coal-fired power plants use coal-fired coal-fired biomass to generate electricity, which should be the main measure for China's coal-fired power to significantly reduce carbon emissions.

The proportion of the structure reached 36.6%, but the proportion of power generation was only 28.9%. Among them, biomass power generation capacity accounts for less than 1%, so biomass power generation has a large space for development.
